The sword is one of the fantasy genre's most iconic heirlooms: a symbol of authority, action, and heroism. From Aragorn's reforged Andúril to Arthur's sword in the stone, the weapon marks both legacy and destiny. But why the sword? Valdemar Rygaard Lenschow explores the special connection between the hero and their weapon, from sagas and medieval myths to modern fantasy, and examines how the sword becomes more than
a tool.
