Julie Midtgaard's first fantasy series got a romance plot by accident. Now Julie is more concerned with showing that the female protagonist doesn't have to settle for outdated, toxic romances, but can have a healthy relationship with her partner and be 100% badass without 1:1 taking over characteristics we conventionally attribute as masculine. But is feminism killing romantasy – or does it contribute to it? And how do you juggle consent with morally gray areas and magical creatures?
