Nano Luxiva provides a fascinating cultural analysis of Danmei – Chinese queer fantasy – and explains how the genre has become a global phenomenon. The presentation explores the relationship between Chinese culture, politics and queer media, the differences to queer narratives in the rest of the world and the role of fans. How can a queer genre flourish in a society marked by homophobic legislation? And what consequences does this have for the stories and those who love them?
