World Premiere: Fantasy Festival’s Very Own Villain Song

What has hands like shovels, a deep mistrust of broccoli—and hates rainbows, flowers, and books? That would be this year’s villain, who now has their very own song!

When Fantasy Festival 2025 opens its doors in Esbjerg, it will kick off with a true world premiere: the festival’s first-ever villain song—written by the city’s own imaginative firebrand, Hanne Meyer, and composed by Kirsten Maria Skovhøj.

“The theme inspired me so much, and then it just came to me. I had to write a villain song for this year’s Fantasy Festival,” says 89-year-old Hanne Meyer, who has written plays, poems, and books for decades—but never anything quite so... villainous.

Inspired by the Seven Deadly Sins

When Hanne heard that this year’s theme was Villains, her imagination went wild. She pondered what truly makes a villain. Is he just evil—or misunderstood? How does he speak? How does he move? And can you even be a good villain?

After a few intense days filled with dreams of grey cats, dark cloaks, and selfish motives, the song took shape. The lyrics revolve around the seven deadly sins, and in Hanne’s own words:

“I love, love, love, love, love, love, LOVE MYSELF!” — and that’s the chorus!

A Villain – With Big Hands and Broccoli Phobia

The song centers on a male villain with shovel-sized hands, black nails, and a burning hatred for anything that blooms or sparkles. He despises children and books and adores darkness and silence—a character as far from Hanne herself as one can get:

“Look at my hands – they’re tiny. My nails are blue. I don’t have villain hands, and I love children,” she laughs.

The Song Is Just the Beginning

The villain song has sparked so much creativity that Hanne is now also working on a children’s book titled

“It just keeps stirring in my mind.”

The music is composed by Kirsten Maria Skovhøj, who has collaborated with Hanne before. She describes their new character with a wink:

“A sly type who thinks he’s really clever. You can hear it in the music.”

The full villain song will premiere on Saturday, September 20th at 10:00 AM, during the official opening of Fantasy Festival 2025—and of course, you’re invited to sing along (or chuckle quietly).
