Fantasyfestival Expands: Look Forward to Three Magical Days of Sorcery and Dark Forces in Esbjerg
For the first time ever, Fantasyfestival will span three full days, as Esbjerg transforms into a city filled with adventure, magic, and mystery from Friday, September 19th to Sunday, September 21st, 2025. With an extra festival day, you’ll have even more time to immerse yourself in the wondrous—and sometimes shadowy—world of fantasy.
While the well-known activities at the Main Library, the Market Square, and the Town Square won’t begin until Saturday, the festival kicks off on Friday with something truly special. You can, for instance, embark on an epic Quest that opens portals to a weekend brimming with magical experiences.
But beware—not all forces in the fantasy realm are friendly.
This year’s theme is Villains, meaning the festival will bring darker powers into the spotlight and delve into the thrilling space between heroes and villains.
"Fantasyfestival is growing—and we’re excited to offer an extra day this year. Friday will be an exciting start, where the festival’s darker theme will take shape in a brand-new way. We look forward to giving people an extra day of magic and mystery," says Ann-Britt von Selen, Head of Libraries at Esbjerg Municipality.
A Whole Weekend of Adventure and Intrigue
On Saturday and Sunday, the festival will truly unfold with a bustling market, vendors, authors, and captivating talks—all filled with magic, intrigue, and, of course, a hefty dose of villainous charm. The library and the city streets will buzz with atmosphere as heroes and villains collide, and you’ll get to choose whether to fight for the light or serve the darker forces.
"With one extra day, we get even more time to explore the world of fantasy and let the magic spread throughout the city. Friday gives us the chance to start the adventure with a twist, and we look forward to offering guests a full weekend of surprises," says Jacob Holm Krogsøe, Project Manager for Fantasyfestival.
