Fantasy Quest Esbjerg 2025: Heroes in the city – the villains set the stage
Once again, Esbjerg is transformed into a living fairytale world when Fantasy Quest Esbjerg 2025 invites the audience into a magical story of heroes, villains, and Norse mythology. Here, it’s not just the actors, but the audience themselves who become part of the tale – side by side with the characters and riddles waiting around every corner.
The forces of the elements have been unleashed, the villains are at play once more, and the heroes must step up. Hidden portals open across Esbjerg, leading into a world of myth and magic where past and present intertwine, and where each step of the Quest draws you deeper into the story.
This year, the villains take center stage in a Quest sprinkled with Norse mythology – and there is much to look forward to, say co-writer and director of the Quest:
“In line with Fantasyfestival’s theme, villains, we have drawn our Quest’s villains from Norse mythology. We’ve chosen to focus on the four elements – fire, water, air, and earth – which are tied to Esbjerg’s history and the ancient burial mounds. Everything in nature holds both angels and demons, gods and giants. Our villains are inspired by the rulers of the elements – such as Ægir and Ran – and the audience must defy the forces of nature, banish their own demons, and once again save Esbjerg from the darkness,” explains the Quest’s director Christina Jensen and co-writer Martin Jensen from Dystopia.
One Quest – two paths
This year you can choose your own way. Either embark on a family-friendly DayQuest filled with adventure and togetherness for the whole family, where the children are the city’s most important heroes. Or prepare yourself for an EveningQuest, designed for the more adventurous, where the story unfolds in twilight with greater intensity and acting that is frighteningly good.
Project manager Mike Mikkelsen promises that participants will get closer to the drama than ever before, no matter which Quest they choose:
“This year, we’ve cast a spell on Fantasy Quest Esbjerg and transformed it into an even more intense and magical experience. The teams have been reduced from 25 to just 10 brave souls – so you’ll be closer to the characters, the mysteries, and the mythical riddles awaiting along the way.”
The city creates the Quest together
Large parts of the Quest unfold in the dark, hidden halls of the Culture & Leisure House, where light and sound are transformed into runes in the shadows. From there, the audience is guided through tents and tipis in the cityscape before the epic finale in I.C. Møller Park, where the entire city can either fall – or be saved – with a single sword strike.
Fantasy Quest Esbjerg is not only a tale of heroes and villains – it is also a shared creation by the entire city. Local volunteers build the scenography, the Culture & Leisure House serves as both base and creative workshop, while professional partners such as Dystopia and Zombunny Studio bring chills, riddles, light, sound, and props to life.
“We’re experiencing enormous local support. Volunteers from schools and educational institutions help with construction, the Culture & Leisure House brings the magic to life, and with Dystopia and Zombunny Studio on board, the experience is lifted to an entirely new level. It’s a community where the whole city contributes to creating the magic,” says project manager Mike Mikkelsen.
Spots are limited. So gather your allies, strap on your armor, and choose your path: the heroes of light in the daytime – or the warriors of night who challenge the shadows.
The adventure awaits.
