Collaboration, sustainable Fantasyfestival merchandise and KORN180
After last year’s Fantasyfestival, the festival team asked if we could make use of their banners, since at KORN180 we work creatively with recyclable materials.
We immediately said a big yes – and it wasn’t until recently that the idea of making tote bags out of them came up. The spark actually came when one of the young people here at KORN suggested that we should build shopping carts for all the cool things sold at the festival. That’s how the idea of turning discarded banners into shopping totes/tote bags was born.
The best and most meaningful part of this process and collaboration is clearly in reusing something that once had a purpose and now finds new life and use – while staying within the same magical context!
I also think it’s amazing to receive a tote bag that’s handmade and 100% in the spirit of Fantasyfestival. We’ve been busy in the sewing basement, and our volunteer seamstresses have been pressing the (sewing machine) pedals. At the same time, some of the young people who normally don’t sew or even have an interest in it, have joined the project to contribute.
Jan, one of our wonderful interns, for example, has been sewing on an overlocker under the expert guidance of Lena, one of our fantastic volunteer seamstresses. It has led to lots of great conversations, laughter, and a strong sense of community.
This is the third (I think) year that KORN180 has collaborated with Fantasyfestival, and it’s truly fantastic to be a part of it. We’re fans of the ideas of diversity and room for different interests. It’s both touching and inspiring to witness how many people, who might otherwise not “get out,” suddenly emerge and shine.
At the same time, this collaboration makes perfect sense, because it’s all about culture, co-creation, and quirky creatures. In this year’s project, the tote bags highlight both environmental and social sustainability in particular.
We’re excited!
