### Author, gamebook historian AND a unique release at the festival itself – Fantasyfestival presents Guest of Honour, Jonathan Green.

Jonathan Green, who introduces himself as Jon, has more than 80 books on his impressive CV.

Jon is 54 years old, born in 1971, and before becoming a full-time author, he worked as a teacher and vice principal at a school in London.

In addition to being a major name, both as an author and a “historian,” within Fighting Fantasy (what we in Danish know as *Sværd og Trolddom*), Jon has also written for companies and series such as Marvel, Star Wars, Doctor Who, Warhammer, Judge Dredd, and Arkham Horror.

He is also the creator of the steampunk series Pax Britannia for Abaddon Books, for which he wrote the first novel ***Unnatural History*****.**

Back to Jon’s role as a gamebook historian. In Adam Oehlenschläger’s poem **Guldhornene** from 1802, it says, among other things: “They yearn and seek. In ancient books.” In relation to Jon, one could write “gamebooks,” as he is one of the leading experts in that field.

He has, for example, written the non-fiction book **You Are the Hero - An Interactive History of Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks**, which covers four decades of gamebooks.

So when Jon visits Fantasyfestival this September, there will be both conversations about his own authorship and discussions about gamebooks as a form of expression – precisely the kind of books many people use to crack the reading code.

To mark Jon’s participation, Faraos Cigarer, along with translator and author Morten Gottschalck, has chosen to translate Jon’s gamebook **Night of the Necromancer**, which will be published in Danish under the title **Genfærdets hævn**. Morten will interview Jon on stage during this year’s festival. The book will be released at Fantasyfestival on September 19, where you can have Jon sign it. Now that’s something special – more on that later, along with news about an exciting Kickstarter!

Morten Gottschalck on **Genfærdets hævn**:

“After three years in the Crusades, you are finally on your way home to your castle. But just before arriving, you are assassinated – and rise again as a ghost. Now you have one night to find out why the dead in the region are walking again, whom you can trust … and who wanted you dead.

This critically acclaimed book is Jonathan Green’s second *Sværd og Trolddom* title in Danish, following **Varulvens hyl**. He has worked closely with Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson on a number of titles, including **Mysteriet i Salamonis**. The book’s interior illustrations are by Martin McKenna, who has contributed to a wide range of *Sværd og Trolddom* titles. We are looking forward both to publishing the book and to meeting Jon in Esbjerg.”

Jon himself says about his visit to Esbjerg:

“I am thrilled to be attending Fantasy Festival 2026. Denmark has a vibrant and growing gamebook scene and I am looking forward to sharing my experiences of writing interactive fiction with attendees.”

So, if you want to meet Jon and visit Fantasyfestival 2026, go to 400. And if you would rather stay home and miss out on the magic, go to 0.
