Experience the magic – and discover the story behind it all!

Gygaz

Since the dawn of time - in fact, long before time as we know it - good has battled evil.

On the side of good stand the Archivists, guardians of the many worlds and universes. They are powerful wizards or become so in time. One of these Archivists, a young lad of just 10,786 years, is Gygaz, the protector of our universe and of Earth itself. On a magical quest to the Underworld to rescue his old barbarian friend Conan, who was imprisoned by Dark Elves, Gygaz learned of a dangerous plan involving Earth. So he returned to Esbjerg and constructed a defense the Guardian Giants.

From here, they would watch the sea and guard against evil. And the Guardian Giants are watching. As darkness begins to stir again, Gygaz is preparing: gathering knowledge of his enemies… and of the heroes who will fight by his side. Because heroes are needed in Esbjerg.

Vogterkæmperne

In the Realm of Giants, peace had finally settled. After years of war and strife, the land had found tranquility. Evil had been driven out. But one day, four great giants heard the call of a kind wizard. These four Tar, Iris, Grong, and Ragna were legendary heroes from the last war, who had once held back hordes of Hellhounds. Now, they were resting with their families, enjoying the peace they had fought so hard for. But when the call came, they knew instinctively they had to answer it. That’s what heroes do. So they did. The four giants said farewell and stepped through the portal, arriving in Esbjerg in the year 1995.

There, they met the wizard Gygaz – who had once helped them seal the portal to the Underworld and bring an end to the war. Gygaz, ever watchful of evil, had a plan. In Esbjerg, he built a barrier against the darkness – something that could watch the sea and spring into action if needed. That barrier took shape in the form of the sculpture Man Meets the Sea. While the artist worked by day, Gygaz cast spells by night.

The air shimmered with magic. And as the final words of an ancient incantation left Gygaz’s lips, the four giants these selfless heroes merged with the statues of the Four White Men. And so they have stood ever since, keeping watch over the sea...

Gnist

And what about the human-like figure the cheeky young man with pointed ears and a wide grin? We don’t know much about Gnist yet, but we do know a little about dragons in general.

As with many things in life, magic can be used for both good and evil. The Creator Dragons knew this the ancient, colossal dragons who helped shape the universe. It was they who created the portals, as a way to keep watch over the many worlds. The Creator Dragons entrusted the Archivists with guarding each of these worlds. To open the portals, the Archivists use the rare and coveted dragon scales, remnants of the first generations of Creator Dragons.

But after many years of peace, even the Archivists and the dragons themselves grew complacent. Everything seemed fine. The alarm systems dulled, vigilance faded.

So perhaps Gnist is the spark that awakens the Creator Dragons from their slumber?

Perhaps Gnist is the key to the victory of good?

Only time will tell.

Arkivaren

Arkivaren of the Realm of Riddles is enjoying life. He may have forgotten his own name, but perhaps he’ll remember it soon?

He delights in riddles and all the fun and quirky things happening in his world. Over time, and without even noticing it, he himself has become a bit eccentric. That’s what happens when you have to solve a riddle before getting your morning coffee! He’s truly happy with his current assignment: to remain in the Realm of Riddles.

From a safe distance, he can observe and assist. He can step in, should something truly dangerous happen. As they say in the World of Humans: one must always be prepared.

Arkivaren Felt the Danger

And speaking of heroes - Arkivaren managed to travel to Esbjerg just in time when he sensed that Maklakitha had opened a portal. He could feel the Heartstone was in danger. Once in Esbjerg, he contacted his old Archivist friend Gygaz, and Gygaz summoned the Guardian Giants to call for help.

Now the heroes are streaming into Esbjerg. Sadly, the journey between the worlds has made Arkivaren even more confused than before… but with Gygaz’s help, let’s hope the heroes can still understand him.

Maklakitha

These are questions that scholars and heroes are still trying to answer.

If you ask the dark princess Maklakitha, she’s always been evil. Her parents were evil. So were her grandparents and their ancestors, all the way up the dark, dark family tree. For her, it’s in her very blood. It’s a lifestyle. She loves anarchy. She loves chaos. And she loves to see others suffer.

But what sets Maklakitha apart from the lesser villains is her ambition. She doesn't just embrace chaos she creates it. From ancient tomes in distant realms to secret conversations with dark forces in crypts and graveyards, Maklakitha seeks knowledge because knowledge brings control, and control brings the power to spread chaos more effectively. She’s a highly skilled sorceress who once trained under…Well, that’s a secret for now. You’ll have to wait to learn the name of her wicked mentor. So beware, Esbjerg.

Beware, universe. Maklakitha and her henchmen are on the move.

Esbjerg's Very Own Fantasy Story: Fantasy Quest Esbjerg

Fantasy Quest Esbjerg is built around a brand new fantasy story, which takes place in and around Esbjerg - Europe's Fantasy Capital - where magic is alive.

In ancient times, it was said...

...that evil would come from the sea. Through generations, this story was passed down. People heard it when Esbjerg was founded in 1868. They always kept an eye on the sea. To the west.

So, in Esbjerg, they built a defense against evil. Something that would watch over the sea, something that would step in if things went wrong. In 1995, this defense was reinforced when the sculptures “Mennesket ved havet” (Man by the Sea) were created. While the artist worked by day, the wizard Gygaz the Wise worked by night.

Gygaz opened a portal to the world of the giants. Here, he found four brave giants who volunteered. They said goodbye to their families and traveled through the portal to Esbjerg. There, they met Gygaz. The air shimmered with magic, and when the final words of a powerful incantation left Gygaz’s lips, the four giants merged with the statues of the four white men. In this way, they could forever watch over the sea...

Years passed, and there was peace and quiet...

...But then strange things began happening. Nature became sick. The elders spoke of evil. Of the guardians. One day, the clouds gathered over the sea to the west, and an unnatural darkness descended. Lightning split the sky. A large, winged creature could be seen in the sky.

The four statues rose up. The guardians had been awakened. They made ready and shouted. Their voices could be heard across the country, across portals to other worlds. “Heroes are needed in Esbjerg!” they shouted.

It’s time for the heroes to gather. It’s time for evil to be fought. It’s time for the portals to be closed.

It’s time for Fantasy Quest Esbjerg.
